Private Water Operators commit themselves, through their international federation, AquaFed, to engage constructively with governments and public authorities to contribute to the delivery of good quality water and sanitation services and to solving local and global water challenges.
Private Water Operators recall the primacy of governments (local, regional, federal, state, referred to below as public authorities) in policy-making and target setting with respect to the public services of drinking water and sanitation that they have been charged to operate (either totally or in part).
AquaFed commits to actively encourage all private operators:
- to contribute to the delivery of good quality water and sanitation services, the implementation of the human right to water and sanitation, tariff policies that ensure social equity and sustainability and the provision of appropriate training to their employees.
- to promote integrity in public water and sanitation services and good water governance at local and international levels through transparency, information, integrity, fair and open competition and contributions to solving local and global challenges.
- to develop data collection, monitoring, innovation and performance improvement of water services.
Private water operators commit:
- to engage constructively with governments and public authorities to contribute to the delivery of good quality water and sanitation services and to solving local and global water challenges.
- to continue to contribute to the work of international institutions and organisations through their international federation AquaFed, and in this way help to progress solutions to local and global water challenges in the context of the UN Rio+20 conference and beyond.
Please read the document below for more details on the commitment.
