As a result of the efforts of regional mobilization carried out since the very first edition of the World Water Forum, the Americas region launched the creation of the Water Forum of the Americas (WFA), a multi-stakeholder platform that aims at building consensus on water management issues in the Americas and at promoting the water agenda. The WFA is an autonomous and independent organization that gathers all-level government representatives, academicians, private sectors, water users and civil society, among others.
Targets

Am1.1 By 2012 all countries in Americas are aware of the declaration of water and sanitation as human rights

Am1.2 By 2020, at least half of the countries have decreased the existing gap in access to water services and to wastewater treated by 50%.

Am2.1 By March 2012, carry out an inventory of water-related climate change adaptation experiences in the Americas

Am2.2 Stimulate specific inclusion of water resources in new or existing national and local adaptation plans

Am3.1 By 2012 create a network of legislators and mobilize existing journalists netowrks on water resources

Am3.2 Identify institutional reforms implemented by countries that consider financial, environmental and social sustianability

Am4.1 By 2015 increase the productivity of rainfed and irrigated agricultural lands

Am4.2 By 2020 increase the use of treated wastewater and/or low quality water in agriculture

Am5.1 By 2012, develop a Water-Energy Nexus Collaboration Network for the Americas

In urban areas in Chile, 15,000,000 people, 98% of wastewater is collected and treated. In rural and suburban areas, 2,000,000 people, only 15%, so that in our community organization, FESAN, we are developing green technologies for treatment in these areas.
