Charles S. Wortmann has a research and extension appointment with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to address nutrient management for crop use efficiency and water quality protection with sustainably high levels of production. Before joining UNL in 2011, he worked in Africa for 20 years and continues to have collaborative work in Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique and Tanzania. The work in Africa is for semi-arid to produce more crop with available rainfall, to assess water productivity under rainfed and irrigated conditions, and to integrate model simulation with field research with a climate change perspective, and to facilitate technology dissemination to smallholder farmers.
