It is learned that most of the direct food calories for human being fed by major food crops like paddy, wheat, maize, and the average water requirement in underdevelop countries for above crops are more than 5000ltrs/kg paddy, 4000ltrs/wheat and maize. so it’s really huge water, and not economical.
Now we can discuss on “more crop per drop” ( production) ”crops per drop ( different crop). Typical interventions measure may also be the availability/affordability of appropriate different farm implements, farm tools as per the land size which also play a vital role to increase water productivity and demonstration of different approaches and modules related to water and crop productivity at the system level.
Irrigation is an important technique for agriculture and livestock, however, must be used properly and consciously in order to avoid waste and water contamination.
Irrigation is key particularly in drought prone regions.
@Niaz Waris; Hi Niaz do you have any solutions related to “more crop per drop” concept?
@Bruno & @Anthony; thanks for your comments. We would like to encourage you to submit a solution related to irrigation problems on http://www.solutionsforwater.org/submit-a-solution
We have to reformulate the “culture” of producing major food crops, and CA (conservation agriculture) may be a solution, because CA is a complex technology and it involves a complete change in the agriculture system.
“Conservation agriculture”, that is an interesting concept! Can you tell us more about it?
