Eau Vive has been working for over 30 years in the Sahel Region, across Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. Eau Vive’s approach is to work with the local communities to help improve the way the resources available are used so that they better meet their needs.
In these areas, surface water resources are minimal and subject to seasonal variability, drying up completely for around four months in the dry season. Single-use design, for only human needs, isn’t appropriate in the Sahel Region. This is a region where livestock herding is one of the primary livelihoods. And in the dry season water points can’t provide water for all. This situation lead to  drudgery in particular for women, more break downs and wearing out of equipment, reduced hygiene, conflict among users or forced migration
