Aquaplus promotes sustainable development by rewarding water professionnals for their outstanding achievements in the field of water and sanitation infrastructure. The Aquaplus label and the trophy result from a process of sustainable development throughout the continuum of the water cycle and they are designed for all actors in the water sector, both local communities, but also Water professionals (companies or public and private agencies).

The Aquaplus approach encourages signatories of the charter to progress by requiring of them to comply with collective commitments and acquire or develop systems of quality, safety and environmental management systems.

The Aquaplus approach may lead to an award of the Aquaplus label for a water professional. It aims to encourage holder of the label to further integrate sustainable development into their activities and foster trust among the commissioning client, the architect and the end user.

The Aquaplus process also rewards exemplary achievements by confering the Aquaplus Trophy. The commissioning client apply for the trophy distinction with the assistance of all partners involved.

The Aquaplus outstanding project Trophy honors actors in the water sector for their achievements in sustainable development at all phases of the project from the definition of requirements to commissioning, including design and construction.

The solution is expected to be implemented at a national scale.

Aquaplus Committee gathers more than 50 experts and key people ensuring representativeness of all water stakeholders: ministries, water agencies, local public bodies, engineering consultancies, water & sanitation companies… It is chaired by the President of the French Mayors Association.
It is composed of 4 bodies:

• Public bodies
• Operators – public or private project owners and project managers
• Technical organisations
• Professionals

Aquaplus  labels were created in 2004 and Aquaplus trophees were created in 2010.

How to bring togeteher the many different stakeholders of the water sectors in a sustainable developpement approach, in an improvment approach, based on technical, environmental, economic and social indicators ? With the participation of all stakeholders AQUAPLUS aims to define the criteria, to evaluate them and to reward management policies, building and servicies.

Aquaplus is an innovative approach in itself and also promote and reward innovatives designs at all stages of building (équipements, civil engineering, process …).

- environmental criteria : 40 %
- economic criteria : 30 %
- social criteria : 30 %

Local authorities in charge of water & sanitation services, public & private water & sanitation services operators, water companies, consultancies can all be interested in this solution as Aquaplus provides them with a real credibility. Aquaplus can be valuable for all of them.
in order to get Aquaplus, it is compulsory to fill in an application file which is reviewed by the Aquplus Committee according to an assessment grid based on more than 500 criteria.

All key stakeholders are involved in Aquaplus approach.
In the case of the Label Aquaplus, there is a new evaluation every three years.
