In any water supply network, a major maintenance expenses go for repairing leaks and breaks of old pipelines. Moreover, during the repaire of breaks, the water service will be interrupted and the customers will not be satisfied.

Since the year 2002-2003, KAHRAMAA (or Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation) started implementing water demand management in gradual stages by optimizing water pressure in the upstream and downstream parts of the water network which decreased the rate of leaks and breaks.  In addition an advanced pump operating technique to minimize the rate of breaks and leaks in the network was introduced.
