The major challenge facing irrigated agriculture today is producing more food using less water. ICID has compiled case studies of successful water saving experiences, tools and research studies contributed by ICID WatSave award winners  from Australia, Brazil, China, India, Egypt, South Korea, Pakistan, South Africa, Spain, Turkmenistan, UK, and USA. Irrigated agriculture is coming under increasing scrutiny as availability of fresh water is declining and competition among other use sectors, including aquatic ecosystems is intensifying. Many national governments, private agencies, research institutes around the world are  therefore focusing their efforts in developing and applying various water saving/conservation measures in agriculture.
