A pilot study on “On-demand water delivery and efficient irrigation methods” was initiated under the Karnataka Community Based Tank Management Project, a World Bank project implemented in selected irrigation tanks in Karnataka.  Tanks are water bodies of varying sizes used mainly for irrigation in ruralIndia. For this study, Dammur village was selected as the tank filling probability was high as it has a rocky catchment, community was interested in such an infrastructure and was a homogenous group.  Against this backdrop, it was proposed to implement this study with the following objectives.

1.         To design and install an irrigation system through buried pipes in a tank command instead of the canal system.

2.         To assess the impact of irrigation infrastructure created on cropping pattern and crop productivity.
