The implumobile is an autonomous solution used for occasional or emergency logistic requirements. The sheet is integrated into the folding structure, allowing quick installation with no tools. By definition, the implumobile can be moved.
Technical specifications:
- Rainwater recovery surface area : 16 m2 (4 x 4 m) – Very compact when folded
- Weight : 30 kg
- Fabric coated with PVC 450 g/m2 – Water-tight sheet : 100% recovery rate.
- Accompanying tank : 10 m3
- 800-micron filter at collection point – Resistance to winds up to 50 km/h as standard
Easy to use and lightweight, the implumobile combined with a flexible tank allows you to collect rainwater anywhere. Placing your tank under the impluvium = protection against heat + gain in space.
This solution is expected to be implemented in places without main water supply or insufficient one: South America (Bolivia, Brazil, Chile…), Africa (Benin, Mali, Ghana, Kenya…), and Asia (India, Indonesia). Moreover the Impluvium could find implementation in Islands (Madagascar, Polynesia, Oceania…) or mountainous regions in developing countries.
The project is implemented by local partners or NGOs.
- The Water supply departments of Sucre, area of Chuquisaca, Bolivia : Installation of an Implumobile of 16 m2 during September for the supply of water of a bladder tank of 20 000 litres.
- Project of the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) “The Adaptation to Climate Change starts in schools: Blue Schools in Ikorudu, Nigeria”
- UNHCR, development division of Geneva, for an experimental implementation of rainwater harvesting in a refugee camps.
- The Water supply department of Brazil for the North Area
The SEA (Société de l’Economie Alpestre), in the Alpes, department of Haute Savoie, in order to provide water for feeding livestock : Impluvium of 50 m2 with flexible tank of 20 000 litres.
We have introduced a testing period since 2010 in our warehouse of Vienne (38, France) : monitoring of the quantity of collected rainwater, overloaded of the frame, removal test and wind resistance approval.
Following this testing period, 4 NGOs and partners are ready to test it on the field
Harvesting rainwater becomes extremely important in the time of Humanitarian crisis, and the quick and flexible solutions for its implementation save not only lives, but also huge investments for digging wells, building pipelines or transport of water by trucks.
In peaceful times, rainwater harvesting can be the main solution offering access to water (in small islands, polluted areas and remote areas, and others). But almost everywhere in the world, it can be set up as a complementary solution which relieves the over exploitation of the ground water reserves, diminishes the risks of flooding and reduces the completion for water in different sectors of the economy and life.. Thus, it is highly important for improving the hygiene and sanitation, satisfying also the needs in livestock breeding and the agriculture.
The innovation of the impluvium LABARONNE CITAF is the coupling of 2 steps in one concept : Rainwater harvesting and storage. The both elements, the collection area and the reservoir are made in a flexible plastic material, easy to be transported.
Hence, the main advantages are the flexibility of the facilities: Easy to transport (the implumobile enters in a box 1,60 x 0,6 m x 0,6 m, easy to install (15 minutes) and to remove.
Storage in flexible tank allows a long lasting unchanged quality of the collected water: DDASS analysis during 2 years realised on a bladder tank have shown that the quality of the stored water did not decrease. Indeed, the bladder prevents from evaporation, contamination and mosquitoes proliferation. This is a big advantage comparing with other storage
Definitely, the easiest Key quantitative indicators must be the numbers of impluvium installed. In order to promote rainwater harvesting, this project brings an alternative solution in location with a lack of structure.
Regarding qualitative indicators, within the Millennium Development Goal for freshwater and sanitation by 2015, improvement of water supply in remote area of Africa, South America and Asia of basic sanitation and house water must be a key factor. Basically, this concept suits for individual habitation, refugee camp or little village.
The new wave of sustainable development inspired this solution.
To install an Impluvium, you simply need to know the average quantity of water fallen per year and the needs of the population.
According to this previous data, you need afterwards to choose your model and determine the most appropriate place of installation.
LABARONNE CITAF has developed a full range of impluvium set:
- The Implumobile with a collecting surface of 16 m2 for Individual facilities:
Two persons for the installation during 5 minutes time, without energy. Estimated cost # 2 520 euros EXW with a bladder tank of 10 m3.
This solution could best work in remote area without structure and important need of water for sanitation like refugee camp, individual habitation and little farm.
WATSAN NGO should be most interested in this Solution, mainly because the tank is protected from heat under the cover.
- The Hyperimpluvium, from 50 to 100 m2 of collecting surface.
The standard has got dimensions 10 x 10 m : It needs 4 persons for the installation, 1 hour time of installation and an estimated cost 12 900 euros EXW with a bladder tank of 200 m3 associated.
This solution could best work in remote village with an important need of water for drinking and sanitation. Its possible to associate at the impluvium a pump alimented with solar panel fixed on the tarpaulin. Moreover water supply department of rainy rural country with a lack of water would be very interested in this solution.
Climate change experts warn that the problem could get worse. In many countries, It rains 2 or 3 months out of the year, and residents don’t have the possibility to catch this important resort; collecting water from local streams with mud and bacteria.
Many times, the only alternative is to buy water from small tanker trucks that travel around, make a drilling or implement a water purification unit. These solutions are costly, need energy and maintenance.
Rainwater harvesting is a community effort. Local residents are taught how to install the impluvium and the tanks. Afterwards, they fan out to different villages and install the system with the help of community residents.
The system can supply enough water for drinking and cooking for a family to last most of the year.
Then, people see rainwater as a solution and should consider the catchment system with the tank can change their lives.
