SIAGUA is a project of Cooperation on water information systems with Latin America in which they take part twenty Spanish-speaking countries and Brazil. It is based on national focal points, who are responsible for the information posted on their web sites and and international focal point is brought from Spain. It was the first initiative to push for a Conference of Latin American Water Directors.

The solution was implemented in Latin America for ten years ago having reached a significant number of visitors in the region

SIAGUA currently has a fairly significant degree of progress based on a cooperative structure in which the various topics covered have coordinators who work in the development of information and make ​​available to the international focal point for future publication.
Responsibility in the preparation of the information has been successful and has allowed for greater involvement of national focal points.

SIAGUA is a documentary database that helps the water sector in search of information in the region and has become a reference center on the Internet

How does the solution contribute to the target’s effective implementation and attainment?

Achieving SIAGUA has been getting a shared responsibility to update the information through the coordination of national focal points

If available, please provide a brief description of the preliminary results yielded by the solution or by any pilot/R&D activities undertaken so far. 

Indicators of success are among others: the increased loyal users and the duration of stay in this website.

We expect to continue increasing the audience, introducing a social network and other tools 

The water information systems are interesting to raise awareness among decision makers on the importance of water resources and how to make a good management of it

In what context do you think this solution could / would work best and why?*

For this work experience is necessary to have institutional support within each country

The political decision to support this type of information is absolutely necessary both national and regional  level

What is the minimum investment necessary (in terms of human resources, time,energy, infrastructure, financial resources, political will, etc.) in order to effectively implement this solution?*

To carry out this type of solutions, it needed 2 special documentaries on the theme of water, a computer programmer, financial resources (125,000 € / year), political support
