The ecosystem based adaptation approach in two different sub watersheds of the Río Sixaola integrates the local indigenous Bribri communities of the Middle Sixaola and the lower Yorkín area into the activities. The pilote sites had been chosen using the CRiSTAL tool (Community-Based Risk Screening Tools-Adaptation & Livelihoods). The adaptation approach consists of two different components:
- Cultivation of organic cacao trees (Agrodiversification) as a matter to prevent high plague populations in traditional platations
- Strengthening and promotion of micro basin water management
