The purpose of this project is to improve the health and standard of living of inhabitants of low-income peri-urban neighborhoods of Dakar and the inhabitants of five secondary cities (Diourbel, Mbacké, Mbour, Tivaouane and Richard Toll) by improving access to hygienic and financially affordable sanitation services. This program, which is led and managed by the National Office for Sanitation of Senegal (ONAS), will:

  • Encourage growth in the private sanitation services sector:
  • Improve the quality of desludging services by private operators;
  • Increase demand for mechanized desludging services through improving access to information and awareness;
  • Increase accessibility and performance of fecal sludge treatment plants;
  • Franchise management of fecal sludge treatment plants to a dynamic private sector.
