“TOOLBOX” OF THE DIFFERENT EXISTING LAKE MANAGEMENT TOOLS IN THE ALPINE

The creation of the toolbox is part of the European project SILMAS and is focusing on the different existing lake management tools in the Alpine region. The toolbox is a set of information sheets explaining the different best practice tools in the alpine lakes on: shore zone construction, navigation, fishery, leisure, lake management tools (lake contracts, lake commissions, lake plans) and tools with an informative or educative purpose.

In the late 90’s, users of the module 8 belonging to the Association of Users “General Eufemio Zapata Salazar, AC”, began to suffer water shortages due to the flow decline the “The Sabines” spring which gives life to the Cuautla River and is the main source of irrigation supply to this organization belonging to the Irrigation District 016 in the “State of Morelos.”

The system is working since 1989. It can be defined as a real-time information system that collects the most significant meteorological, hydrologic and hydraulic data from all the basin and transmit the data for their process to the basin headquarters. Now there are more than 215 points for collecting the data with 181 rain gauges, 31 dams and 98 points monitoring the flow in rivers and creeks. Besides the system is monitoring irrigation and water supply intakes and channels.

Besides the flood management , the system is used for the improvement of the water management in many aspects such as ecological flow control, drougth management, irrigation and water supply control, dam safety.
