To augment inadequate canal supplies, the farmers are using poor quality groundwater in many areas without curative measures. The indiscriminate use of poor quality water in turn is affecting the soil health and crop yields. In order to overcome this problem, the conjunctive or cyclic use of canal and groundwater is practiced to overcome the shortage of water and reduce salinity build up.
