This is a technical solution. The idea is to use subsurface drip irrigation as a deficit irrigation using the Partial Root zone Drying method, PRD. This involves the use of two drip lines operating in alternating manner. At the irrigation time, one line is on while the other is off. Half of the vertical root zone will be wet during the irrigation while the other half will be kept dry then alternate during the next irrigation. This method minimizes losses by evaporation, saves water up to 40% and increases the water use efficiency of water and nutrient uptake, increases the productivity and minimizes weed growth, the salinity impact and leaching requirements.
