Water Knows No Boundaries. Hence, it is crucial to develop tools and institutions dedicated to its transboundary management.

It is precisely the objective of the cooperation three countries of Eastern Europe have initiated for the management of the Bug river basin resources.

This cooperation is based on the principles of the legal instruments currently applying in the countries of the partnership. For instance, the Water Framework Directive –which states that “where a river basin district extends beyond the territory of the Community, the Member State or Member States concerned shall endeavour to establish appropriate coordination with the relevant non-Member States, with the aim of achieving the objectives of this Directive”, or the UNECE Water Convention and its principles of equitable use, no-harm and prior notification.
