The SCWMI Index is the result of a  research aiming at evaluating the spatial evolution of the monitoring network of inland surface waters of State of São Paulo, southeast of Brazil, through the number of sampling points and its density throughout 30 years and the population growth (urbanization) and the population density in the 22 units of water management units of the São Paulo State.

A prerequisite to the exchange and monitoing of water information at transboundary level is the development of effective water information system at national level.
Hispagua is one remarkable national water information system, structuring and updating knowledge on Spain’s waters. Hispagua improves access to and dissemination of the available information on the country’s waters. The scope is broad and covers the following topic: institutional information, documentation, educational materials, research publications, raw data, “water culture”.
Besides, the Hispagua information system is part of the Euro-Mediterranean Information System on know-how in the Water sector (EMWIS). Exchange between the two systems benefits to both.
